Community Organizing, Collective Change
For over ten years, I’ve been involved in grassroots organizing in Toronto and beyond, with a focus on queer and trans liberation, police abolition, and racial and economic justice.
In 2017, I co-founded the Toronto chapter of Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ), where I continue to organize white people to divest from white supremacy and take action to support Black, Indigenous, and racialized organizers and movements. I believe that no one is free until everyone is free, and participate in struggles against settler colonialism, white supremacy, racial capitalism, and policing from a place of love and of rage, of responsibility and of deep mutual interest.
I have skills in strategic planning, facilitating meetings & conversations, writing for various audiences & contexts, coordinating events & actions, managing & leveraging social media platforms, and building strong, caring, sustainable teams & relationships. I participated in the Anne Braden Anti-Racist Organizer Training Program for white social justice activists in 2019, and offer coaching to newer SURJ chapters and support to other white organizers about engaging in racial justice work with humility, accountability, and a commitment to collective liberation. I haven’t “arrived” and am always learning and growing in this work - but I have questions, experiences, values, and resources to draw on as we navigate this complicated terrain together!
